Heald

Originally a manufacturer of woodworking machinery, the Heald Company can trace its roots back to the 1820s when S. Heald & Sons was established in Worcester, Massachusetts. As the company grew and management was turned over from father to sons, the company was renamed the Heald Machine Company and moved primarily to the manufacture of grinding equipment. One of the first machines developed by this well-respected New England manufacturer was the twist grill grinder, a machine that was sold around the world. As Heald grew, the company focused even further on grinder development and manufacture, changing the design of the machine tool to meet the needs of the time. The company received hundreds of American patents, primarily related to its grinding machine technology. As the machine tool manufacture began to slow down across the U.S, Cincinnati Milacron purchased Heald in 1974. Some 18 years later, Heald was permanently closed.

Known for their durability and precision, thousands of Heald grinders are still in operation today at plants located worldwide.
